Communications and Marketing Lead



Under the guidance of the Vice President of Business Development, the Communications and Marketing Lead plays a critical role in operationalizing Cowater’s communication and marketing activities.   

Based in Ottawa, the position will serve corporate offices and will also support field level activities at project locations. 


  • Lead and manage the development of internal and external communication policies, guidelines, standards, and strategies to guide communication activities;
  • Oversee the design of Cowater corporate materials and communication across all channels (electronic publications, print, social media and web);
  • Identify and champion corporate communications and implement strategies and processes to enhance awareness of Cowater;
  • Lead and guide project level communications activities in support of both Cowater goals and those of our client and project stakeholders;
  • Serve in a technical/consulting capacity to deliver project level communication and knowledge management results, as applicable; and
  • Short-term international travel to projects locations will be required. 



  • BA or Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business or a related field.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of communications experience leading communications and stakeholder engagement activities, and ideally in the consulting services or international development sector;
  • Experience providing client-oriented consulting or technical advice related to communications and brand and marketing management; and
  • Experience planning, writing, editing, and producing promotional materials, including one pagers, brochures, case stories, etc.

Essential skills:

  • Fluently Bilingual in English and French;
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey messages through clear and concise writing;
  • Well-informed of communications technologies and standards and an understanding of the constraints and benefits of different approaches and techniques;
  • Ability to execute and enforce project timelines to achieve defined objectives;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with executives, all levels of Cowater’s staff, partners and other stakeholders;
  • A positive team player; and
  • Experience utilizing a full range of software, social media and technology platforms including; MS Office, Adobe Photoshop and/or other graphics programs.
