CowaterSogema is excited to announce an opening for the position of Project Coordinator to join our Social Development Group (SDG) in our headquarters office in Ottawa. The Social Development Group (SGD) manages and implements large donor-funded projects in women empowerment, health, education and social service delivery. As part of SDG, employees have a unique opportunity to design and implement projects that engage public and private sector stakeholders around innovative solutions that improve social and economic well-being in the countries in which we operate.

The Project Coordinator will play an essential role in the administration and effectiveness of the team by supporting local and field-based staff with day-to-day operations, project organization and budgeting. The Project Coordinator will be taking ownership of tracking in-country work, including contracts, payments, and providing key support in developing strategic processes to ensure efficient communication across teams and regions. 


  • Coordinate all components of project implementation, including: staffing, development of operational procedures, office opening, etc.
  • Coordinates and schedules meetings regarding projects among team.
  • Systematically tracks, monitors, and disseminates internal documents and deliverables so the field-based team has real time access to key information
  • Coordinating, planning and execution of globally-dispersed workshops, country scoping missions, and small conferences as part of CowaterSogema country engagement and other work streams.
  • Assist the Project Managers in ensuring all reports are prepared and submitted to the Clients according to the contract and in a timely manner.
  • Provide overall support for new and existing projects as requested by the VP and/or Project Directors/Managers, including assistance with budget preparation/monitoring, contract administration, etc.
  • Oversee any relevant procurement processes.
  • Establish and maintain efficient administrative systems including filing and inventory.


Employment Status:

  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Be eligible to obtain the Government of Canada’s Reliability Status clearance level.


  • Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences or a related field with a strong academic performance.

Minimum Experience:

  • 2-3 years of experience in the relevant field – preferably development sector.
  • Have programme coordination and planning experience.

Essential Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability in reading, writing and speaking fluently in English and French is essential.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and SharePoint; advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, financial analysis and synthesis.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and time-sensitive assignments within a group environment.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and coordination skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, with a diverse staff, across multiple time zones.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and be flexible on changing priorities
  • Familiarity with donor institutions and the international development sector.
  • Strong demonstrated interest in the fields of disability and/or gender, social inclusion, and women’s empowerment.
  • Positive attitude, openness to learning, and professionalism.

Employment conditions: The position will be full-time, permanent and based in our headquarters office in Ottawa. Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
