Team Leader

Field Staff, Full-Time

Summary of Position

CowaterSogema is recruiting for the position of Team Leader for an upcoming project that aims to increase the political participation and enjoyment of rights by women, particularly young and marginalised women and those at-risk, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

Based in Peshawar, the Team Leader will have overall responsibility for the management of the project in Pakistan, including managing the inputs of other project staff and consultants. In this full-time role, the Team Leader will work with the HQ-based Senior Project Manager to ensure that the project delivers against its identified outcomes.

Key responsibilities include


  • Providing strategic and technical oversight to the project
  • Lead the design and implementation of project activities under each output area, maximizing contribution to the identified immediate and intermediate outcomes
  • Liaise with stakeholders to capture their input into the design of initiatives and sustainability strategies


  • Ensure effective coordination and delivery of all activities
  • Manage the project budget, including overseeing all project finances
  • Manage project resources (human and financial) effectively and efficiently to ensure optimum project delivery
  • Provide final quality control/quality assurance for all project deliverables
  • Ensure the timely completion of all project deliverables in accordance with the Contribution Agreement and project annual work plans
  • Oversee the effective implementation of the Project Monitoring Framework
  • Supervise, motivate and support team members to ensure their success, resolve conflicts and replace non-performing staff
  • Ensure the timely and effective sourcing of short-term experts for identified technical inputs and capacity building initiatives.
  • Oversee project procurement activities and sure that they are conducted in line with GAC and CowaterSogema procurement standards
  • Liaise closely with CowaterSogema’s HQ Senior Project Manager and Executive Vice President to facilitate effective personnel and financial management
  • Represent CowaterSogema and the project team at project and official events

Job requirements


  • Master’s Degree in a relevant field, including gender equality, political science, management, public administration, business administration, development or other relevant discipline

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience working on donor-funded development projects in Pakistan
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in senior leadership and/or management role
  • Practical experience working in a similar capacity in donor-funded projects and knowledge of the RBM tools, an asset

Essential Skills

  • Fluency in English
  • Demonstrated knowledge of gender equality issues in Pakistan
  • Demonstrated understanding of the barriers to women’s political participation in Pakistan
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse team of people
  • Strong communication and diplomacy skills with the ability to speak/read/write in English and Urdu
  • Ability to deal with complex and sometimes stressful situations, while maintaining a professional and solutions-oriented attitude.
