ACCOUNTING CLERK

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION

We are looking for an Accounting Clerk to join the finance team of our Headquarters in Ottawa. This person would report to the Finance Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Accounting Clerk’s duties include the following:

Code, process, and post accounts payable.

  • Maintain financial and project accounts (including verification and posting of project invoices, subcontractor and consultant invoices, and field reports).
  • Verify and code employee expense claims for project and non-project expenses.
  • Prepare credit card reconciliation
  • Prepare cheques and wire transfers.
  • Track daily bank account activity online and update records.
  • Liaise with bank regarding wire transfers, daily transactions, and foreign currency transactions.
  • Deposit cheques.
  • Prepare regular government remittances (e.g. GST, tax remittances).
  • Maintain the accounting files.
  • Assist with inter-company transactions.
  • Assist with foreign exchange transactions.
  • Tag fixed assets.
  • Provide administrative support to the finance department.
  • Assist with special accounting analysis and perform other duties as may be required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Accounting degree, college or equivalent

Minimum Experience:

  • No previous experience is required.

  • Volume of work (quantity, speed)
  • Timeliness (meet deadlines, generally handle duties in an efficient and timely manner)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Helpfulness / positive attitude
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Breadth of knowledge and interest in projects
  • Other factors such as promptness, punctuality
  • Security clearance (secret) consider an asset
